£75,000 obtained for psychological injury following a road traffic collision
Tom Ranson, a personal injury specialist, obtained compensation of £75,000 for Ms R who required specialist treatment following a road traffic collision in which she suffered severe travel anxiety and an underlying Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Ms R was travelling on a motorway on her way to work when an articulated lorry drove into the side of her car in what was a very frightening situation. After the collision, as a consequence of her psychological injury, she had to change careers to one which did not require her to drive as much as before.
The lorry driver’s insurers initially offered £7,500 as their expert considered Ms R’s symptoms to be of ‘nuisance value’ only; however, on the first day of trial Mrs R accepted an offer of £75,000 – ten times their original offer.
Tom Ranson comments “In this hard fought case, despite the expert employed by the insurers suggesting the accident had little impact upon her, Ms R refused to be intimidated and with the backing of Ashtons and her own expert, secured the right level of compensation at trial.”
