£348,000 obtained for model with subtle head injury claim

Tom Ranson, a personal injury specialist at Ashtons Legal, has obtained £348,000 compensation for Miss W, who was hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing when she was 12. She sustained minor bumps and bruises but suffered psychological trauma and a suspected subtle brain injury. Her education was severely disrupted by her injuries and, instead of going to university, she went into modelling on a part-time basis after leaving school. Her future, like her health prognosis, was uncertain.
Miss W came to Ashtons Legal after another firm of solicitors had failed to progress her claim effectively in the face of insurers claiming that she had only suffered minor soft tissue injuries in the accident and any subsequent health issues were unrelated. The eventual settlement was over three times the amount initially offered by the insurers.
Tom Ranson comments: “The message is clear – it is vital that injured parties and their lawyers are robust and have the courage of their convictions and refuse to compromise if this is not justified. With the right support and an early and ongoing assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of a case, this allows injury claimants to be alive to the issues and to make informed decisions at each step of the process, under the guidance of their lawyers.”
