£13,000 obtained for man scarred by accident at work

Louise Harper, a personal injury specialist at Ashtons Legal, has obtained £13,000 for Mr T, from Braintree, Essex. Mr T was injured when using an angle grinder at work and it hit him in the face. He has been left with a permanent visible scar on his cheek.
Louise comments: “This claim raises two important issues. Firstly, the job had not been risk assessed and Mr T had not been given appropriate protective equipment to carry out the task. If it had been, then the injury would almost certainly have been prevented. The second is that Mr T didn’t come to see us until almost three years after the injury was suffered due to pressure being placed on him by his employers which put him off. Although we would always encourage people to seek advice promptly after an accident, you do have up to three years to make a claim. In this case we were able to issue the claim to protect Mr T position and obtain all the relevant evidence within the time limits, enabling Mr T’s successful claim. Like many people who suffer workplace injuries, Mr T was discouraged from bringing a claim initially but in fact he is now still happily employed by the same organisation.”
