£12,000 obtained for lady failed by mental health services

Sharon Allison, a medical negligence specialist at Ashtons Legal, has obtained a settlement of £12,000 for Ms H. Ms H was let down by NHS mental health provision, resulting in her attempted suicide and a range of subsequent problems.
Sharon comments: “The treatment received by Ms H initially was appropriate and effective and she responded well to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. However, during later treatment, medics failed to monitor her transition between antidepressant medication effectively. In particular, they failed to advise her as to the length of time new medication might take to become effective and to give her additional support during that time. Unfortunately we are seeing an increasing volume of clients whose mental health treatment has been sub-standard; this is a problem which needs to be addressed by the NHS as a matter of urgency.”
