Substantial personal injury settlement obtained for brain injured car passenger
Richard Foyster, who heads the personal injury team at Ashtons Legal, has settled, for just under £2 million, the injury claim of a Suffolk man who sustained a serious brain injury during a traffic collision.
Mr T was a passenger in the vehicle involved in the collision. His brain injury resulted in many psychological and cognitive difficulties, and he needed extensive rehabilitation and support over a substantial period of time in order to begin a meaningful recovery.
Richard comments: “As with the majority of acquired brain injuries, early and effective rehabilitation was the key to enabling Mr T to begin to get his life back on track. He is now able to work and socialise once again and to live independently, although he still has some cognitive difficulties. His rehabilitation involved a treating psychiatrist, a complex case management team, regular support workers, a social worker and an occupational therapist.
“We were able to settle his claim without the need to go to court, and he now has sufficient funds to ensure his future support needs are provided. He has also been compensated for the extensive costs incurred immediately after the injury was incurred and during his rehabilitation period. Like anyone in his position, Mr T would much prefer that he had never sustained the injury as no money can truly compensate for what he has been through.”
