Mesothelioma support in East Anglia is vital in light of recent statistics
According to the recently published Royal College of Physicians National Mesothelioma Audit Report 2020, there were 876 cases of mesothelioma diagnosed in the East of England during 2016-2018, over 400 cases more than were reported in any other region.
The research, involving the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service, reveals that diagnostic and support measures have improved nationally since previous audits. The vast majority of the diagnoses are pleural mesothelioma and 10% of those diagnosed now have a three-year survival prognosis, up from seven per cent in the previous research window.
The fact that so many cases continue to be diagnosed in the East of England reflects well on the fact that GPs are recognising the symptoms and referring clients to specialists in a timely manner. However, it does highlight the need for specialist support of all types.
At Ashtons we offer a specialist mesothelioma injury claims service provided by a small team specialising solely in asbestos-related disease claims.
In the normal scheme of things we would visit every client at home when first starting to work on their claim; as a result of COVID-19, we are conducting all our meetings on either Zoom, Teams, WhatsApp or FaceTime to suit our client families.
We have a strong track record of getting early interim payments to help those who have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related disease to have the best possible quality of life that they can while living with their illness.
We have recently settled successful claims not only for the tradesmen who themselves worked with asbestos for many years but also for wives who contracted mesothelioma after repeatedly washing their husbands’ asbestos-covered overalls.
We are also very keen to support clients in a pastoral sense and have sponsored the Anglia Asbestos Disease Support Group for the past few years, running regular monthly sessions in Norwich and Bury St Edmunds. We hope to get these back on track in a socially distanced way later in the year – find out more at https://www.angliaasbestos.co.uk/
The group members are also passionate about helping to raise funds to pay for a specialist mesothelioma nurse to support patients in our region – if you would like to donate, please click here.
