MacMillian : Cancer waiting times at an all-time high

A concern or diagnosis of cancer is worrying enough; however, analysis by MacMillan Cancer Support has revealed that people are now waiting longer than ever for a diagnosis or for treatment to begin.

The impact is that over 100,000 people have seen their quality of life deteriorate with worsening symptoms and the likelihood of successful treatment reduced.

In some situations, patients’ treatment options have been narrowed, and their cancer has spread or become incurable as a result of the delays in NHS care.

The chief executive of MacMillan Cancer Support said: “Every single person who has faced a worse outcome from their cancer diagnosis because of delays will know the devastating impact that waiting has had on their lives, from the burden of anxiety that their cancer is growing and, for many, the devastating news that their cancer is now incurable.”
