Five-figure settlement obtained following negligent circumcision operation
A Medical Negligence Solicitor at Ashtons Legal has obtained a five-figure settlement for Mr M, a man who has lost full function of his penis following a substandard circumcision procedure at a Leicester Hospital.
Mr S had been experiencing issues with his penis which included a six-month history of broken skin and a feeling of tightness on the shaft of the penis, with the symptoms becoming worse. The symptoms were indicative of lichen sclerosis and were initially treated with Dermovate cream.
Over the next three years, the problem became increasingly worse. After discussions, he was placed on a waiting list for circumcision and was warned an adequate area of the foreskin would be removed.
Prior to the operation, it was not discussed that Mr M would not be able to use a toilet in a normal way again or be able to have sexual interactions, ejaculation or any normal use of his penis following the surgery. As a result of the negligent operation, Mr S experiences mental health problems that have caused a significant reduction in his quality of life.
Ashtons comment: “This was a very sad case which negatively impacted on Mr M’s life drastically. He suffered an unnecessary operation and an exacerbation of his underlying condition. This operation has affected both his home and working life. He placed trust in the Hospital and they let him down by failing to properly consent to the risks and by making an already bad situation even worse. No amount of compensation will ever truly compensate Mr S but it may go towards further corrective surgery in the future.”
