Early injury settlement of around £90,000 obtained for overseas visitor
Graham Heywood, a personal injury specialist at Ashtons Legal, has obtained a substantial five figure settlement for Mr T, a pedestrian who was knocked down by a car and suffered a head injury and fractures to his shoulder and hand.
Mr T was a retired gentleman who was visiting the UK on holiday. Having been hit by a car he was treated in a UK hospital initially and then flew home once he was fit enough to do so.
Graham comments: “We were able to secure an early interim payment to cover Mr T’s additional accommodation and travel expenses to enable him to stay in the UK until he was able to fly back to his native country. Unfortunately, after his return home, Mr T suffered a serious illness which was totally unrelated to the accident that had caused his injuries in the UK.
“As a result, he was keen to conclude his injury claim here as quickly as possible so that he could concentrate fully on his recuperation. The car driver’s insurers refused to admit at any point that the driver who hit Mr T was at fault. We were able to negotiate a significant settlement of around £90,000 without the need to go to court.
“Initial predictions were that we might have to settle for a substantially lower figure so this was a very good outcome for Mr T and demonstrates the importance of having a strong legal team negotiating on your behalf.”
