Baby Loss Awareness Week 2024

  • Posted

Baby Loss Awareness Week is held annually from 9 to 15 October. It’s a special opportunity to mark the lives of babies lost in pregnancy, at birth or soon after birth.

The week aims to share how the pregnancy and baby loss community is there for people every step of the way, during and after loss. It is there to remind those who have suffered the loss of a baby that you don’t have to navigate baby loss alone.

The week concludes with the Wave of Light, at 7pm on Tuesday 15 October, with people from all around the world lighting a candle in memory of babies that have been sadly lost.

As part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, many charities provide advice and support to those who have experienced a loss, as well as raising awareness. This week and beyond, charities play an important role in supporting and guiding families through the grieving process. The following are just a few examples of charities that can provide fantastic support to families navigating the loss of a baby:

If you have suffered baby loss and need help, we always recommend reaching out for support in whatever way feels best for you. The charities listed above can help you take that step.

At Ashtons Legal, we act for many families that have tragically lost their baby due to medical negligence. We are grateful to our clients for trusting us with the memories of their babies and allowing us to represent them. For these families, parenting does not stop when you lose a baby. The legal process they embark upon is a difficult journey and one they chose to make to honour their baby and the life they should have had. And in the hope of helping to prevent other families from experiencing such a devastating loss.

As Baby Loss Awareness Week draws to a close, we take time to remember those babies who never made it home and who live forever in our hearts and memories. Whilst the week is over, those who have lost will continue to reflect every day. Their babies will always matter.
