£60,000 obtained for man whose kidney problems were not treated appropriately

Sharon Allison, a medical negligence claim specialist at Ashtons Legal, has achieved a £60,000 settlement for Mr T after his local hospital failed to treat his kidney-related problems in a timely way.

One result was that more complex surgery was eventually required than would otherwise have been necessary.  Another was that he suffered considerable pain while awaiting treatment and became unable to work, which in turn resulted in his contract being terminated.

Sharon explains: “Mr T should have undergone a laparoscopic pyeloplasty within three months of his diagnosis of pelviureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction. Had he done so, he would not have had to undergo a nephrectomy and lose an entire kidney.  By the time the operation took place, it was almost a year from the point of originally presenting with the kidney-related problems and symptoms and being diagnosed.

Like almost everyone for whom we act in a medical negligence claim, Mr T would far rather have been treated correctly in the first place than having needed to pursue a compensation settlement for negligent treatment.  However, the money will go some way towards helping him to get his life back on track following his operation.”
