£175,000 obtained for family of Cambridgeshire mesothelioma sufferer

Ashtons Legal has obtained a substantial settlement for the family of Mr T who sadly lost his battle with mesothelioma last year.

Mr T worked as a shop-fitter in the Midlands for 30 years and was exposed to asbestos on multiple occasions, some of them in confined spaces. In particular, he was involved in boxing in pipework, building soffits and fascias. His work often involved him in cutting asbestos panels behind radiators in order to fit the pipework and he frequently emerged covered in fine white dust particles.

Ashtons comments: “It was not until the late 1980s that Mr T was warned of the dangers of asbestos, and even then it was only blue asbestos. His employers should have taken greater precautions to protect him over many years before that. Mr T was an active pensioner at the time of his diagnosis and sadly mesothelioma has cut his life short. The settlement will never replace the time he should have had enjoying his retirement with his family, but it will ensure that his wife is not out of pocket now that she has to manage without him.”
