This week’s spotlight is on Gemma Helsdon, a Senior Associate in our Norwich Lifetime Planning team.
Gemma Helsdon
What is your role at Ashtons?
I am a Senior Associate in the Lifetime Planning team in Norwich.
How long have you been at the firm?
I joined Ashtons in September 2023.
Where have you worked previously?
I undertook the traditional route so did GCSEs, A Levels, a law degree at UEA and the LPC at Anglia Ruskin. I did work experience with both Kester Cunningham John and Ashton Graham in the past too. I then joined Hansells in Norwich as a typist and left 11 years later as a Senior Associate before joining Ashtons Legal last year.
Who is in your team?
There is myself and Karen Bacon (Senior Associates), Cathy Savvas (CILex), Loren Clapham (Trainee CILex), Dinah Braddick, Annette Reynolds and Heather Williams (Paralegals). There are also three Legal PAs who support us heavily.
Do you have any specialisms?
I support clients, their families, and their businesses in matters related to Wills, Estate Administrations, Inheritance Tax Planning, Powers of Attorney, Trusts, and lifetime and succession planning.
Did you ever consider a different career?
I initially wanted to study medicine at university but ultimately decided on law. When I was younger, I wanted to be a vet and a ballerina.
If you could give your younger self some career advice, what would it be?
Learn another language – it can open so many doors and it’s good for the brain!
