Bob McGeady - Planning Law Consultant

What is your role at Ashtons?

I am a consultant specialising in planning and local government-related work.

How long have you been at the firm?

I joined what was then Cunningham John in February 2004. I was then an equity partner and Head of Commercial Property in what became Kester Cunningham John, then Ashton KCJ and now, Ashtons Legal.

Where have you worked previously?

I spent the first 17 years of my career working in-house for various local authorities. I moved to private practice in 2000, joining Steeles, and then moving to Cunningham John in 2004.

Who is in your team?

Amy Richardson and myself.

Do you have any specialisms?

Planning and development work and local government-related issues.

Did you ever consider a different career?

I had originally thought I might dabble with accountancy but then thought better of it. I also contemplated being a musician, which I ended up doing part-time, in any event, playing across East Anglia and London.

If you could give your younger self some career advice, what would it be?

Don’t plan too far or in too much detail but be ready to take advantage of opportunities that arise along the way. Be brave and listen to your inner voice. I hadn’t a clue I would ever have achieved what I have when I first started out.
