Spotlight On… Joanna Baker
This week’s spotlight is on Joanna Baker, a Partner in our Private Wealth Disputes team.
Joanna Baker
What is your role at Ashtons?
I am a Partner in the Private Wealth Disputes team.
How long have you been at the firm?
In total over 17 and a half years! 1997 – 2009 and 2019 – present.
Where have you worked previously?
I joined Graham & Oldham (which is now Ashtons) at 18 after my A-Levels and worked and studied to qualify as a FCILEX. In my 10 year hiatus from Ashtons after having my babies, I worked as in-house legal at a consulting engineering company as their sole litigator and Deputy Head of Legal. I re-joined Ashtons in 2019 after missing the ‘buzz’ of private practice.
Who is in your team?
Polly Stephenson (Partner), Gino Ballestracci (Senior Associate), Annastasia Christoforou Fox (Solicitor), Nicki Frearson (Paralegal), Eloise Eddy (Paralegal), Poppy Lee (Paralegal) and Tom Hayden (Trainee Legal Executive).
Do you have any specialisms?
Our area of law is specialist – contentious trusts and probate and I am drawn to help the more vulnerable clients.
Did you ever consider a different career?
Yes – to be a ballerina!
If you could give your younger self some career advice, what would it be?
Keep going and have fun along the way!
