Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust fined £1.6m

Ashtons Legal represent the family of Quinn Lias Parker, born on 14 July 2021 and died on 16 July 2021, the son of Ryan Parker and Emmie Studencki.

Yesterday, in Nottingham, as part of a Care Quality Commission (CQC) prosecution into the care afforded to Quinn and Emmie along with two other families, the Court fined Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust £1.6m.

Quinn died following a long list of failures in care to both Emmie and Quinn, but also to Ryan, who advocated throughout. It is bittersweet that in the judgment, it was acknowledged that the Defendant, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, would be working on an initiative to ensure that wider family members will be included in discussions and as part of providing information to families, although the contents of how that will look remain to be seen.

Ryan and Emmie had been pushing for a CQC investigation into their care and what happened to Quinn since his death. They have worked tirelessly to secure the prosecution after facing many closed doors. It is down to their absolute and unwavering determination, for themselves and for Quinn, that the prosecution has happened.

Natalie Cosgrove, who represents the family, says: “It is an honour and privilege to represent Quinn and his family. It is so important that in this, their voices are heard, and their concerns are answered. Not just in how Quinn was born, but those 36 hours that he lived. It is vital that safe care is afforded to all, that all family members are treated equally and that no parent should feel airbrushed away. As justice for Quinn, Adele and Kahlani is served, we remember that today they should be at nursery, preparing for school in September, and there is a lifetime of firsts that they will never have.”
