Ashtons Legal to launch new Ipswich office
Ashtons Legal is pleased to announce that it is moving its Ipswich base to a unique prominent town centre location at Portman House from Monday 19 June 2023.
Ashtons Legal employ over 400 people in its offices across the East of England, with around 100 staff based out of the Ipswich office who will all be moving to Portman House.
Portman House sits within the heart of the business district but started life in 1921, built as part of the warehousing stock for cigarette maker Churchmans. This industry retired from Ipswich in the early 1990’s but the brand continued for some time, with the Churchman stand a memory for many at neighbours Ipswich Town Football Club.
The unusually-shaped building had previously been converted for office use and is being further adapted by Ashtons to create a modern open working environment with high-quality staff and client meeting spaces in line with Ashtons other main offices in Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge and Norwich. The building also offers onsite client parking.
Ashtons Legal has long been an Ipswich town centre resident – the firm (previously known as Ashton Graham and Graham & Oldham) was a tenant at Electric House in the town before moving to Waterfront House in 2005, just prior to the regeneration of the whole waterfront area.
James Tarling, CEO of Ashtons says: “We are excited to be making a long-term commitment to the town and region with our move to this prominent building. Portman House will provide a better working environment for our staff, designed for the more flexible and collaborative way that we now work, as well as providing excellent facilities for our clients. We are looking forward to welcoming clients and others to the new offices when we complete our move in June. It has been a pleasure working with Savills to help us complete this move, and we look forward to continuing to work closely with Ipswich Borough Assets as our new landlords.”
Colin Kreidewolf, Chair, Ipswich Borough Assets says: “We are pleased to be able to satisfy Ashtons’ search for new offices in this prime location. Portman House is a unique building, situated on Princes Street, and offers excellent connectivity to Ipswich and surrounding areas, as well as Ipswich Town Football Club. Ipswich Borough Assets will continue to support Ashtons Legal to ensure their transition is as smooth as possible.”
