Ashtons Legal advises Stow Healthcare on further Essex acquisition
Ashtons Legal has advised Stow Healthcare, the East Anglian based premium nursing and residential care provider, on the purchase of The Cedars Care Home in Halstead, Essex.
The legal team was Geoff Hazlewood (Corporate and Commercial team), Ron Clare (Commercial Property) and Colin Makin (Employment).
Stow Healthcare, which has increased its capacity to over 330 beds in East Anglia with this purchase, also operates the award-winning Stowlangtoft Hall Nursing Home near Bury St. Edmunds, Ford Place Nursing Home in Thetford, Brandon Park Nursing Home near Brandon, and Melford Court Care Home in Long Melford. This acquisition is the second such deal Stow Healthcare has completed in the region recently, following their purchase of Halstead Hall.
The Cedars is currently registered for 63 residents and offers Stow Healthcare the opportunity to expand its premium care brand in Essex. The Cedars provide long-term, respite and convalescence dementia and nursing care to the elderly and is to be renamed Cedars Place.
Roger Catchpole, Managing Director of Stow Healthcare, said of the deal: “We are delighted to have agreed the purchase of a care facility with such great potential. Despite the home struggling for many years, I am confident that with the support of Essex County Council, the Care Quality Commission, and the local Halstead community, we can turn this home into one of the best care homes in Essex.”
Geoff Hazlewood commented: “We are very pleased to be able to assist and support Stow Healthcare as they continue to expand their group of award-winning care homes in Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. It is rewarding to be able to work with a company which is clearly committed to providing a much-needed high-quality resource in the region and has found a highly successful formula for doing so.”
In addition to advising on acquisitions and sales, Ashtons also advises care homeowners and managers on a range of other matters including employment law and CQC issues and works with them to provide personal lifetime planning advice to their residents and their families.
