Ashtons attend The Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers (SCIL) Conference
Ashtons Medical Negligence and Court of Protection teams attended the annual Society of Clinical Injury Lawyers (SCIL) Conference this week, with Ashtons Head of Medical Negligence, Sharon Allison, presenting on stage.
Sharon became the first female Chair of the SCIL Executive Committee in May 2023.
SCIL represent the interests of over 75 specialised medical negligence firms throughout England. The conference had 30 exhibitors in attendance with delegates visiting from firms across the UK.
The conference, held at the Millennium Point in Birmingham, had a raft of excellent speakers, including Dr Xand van Tulleken (TV doctor and presenter) who spoke about losing weight, finding love and living forever.
A particular highlight was the presentation from Simon Hammond from NHSR (Director of Claims) talking about collaboration between Claimants and Defendants and collectively working together to eradicate the adversarial nature of litigation.
Ashtons Head of Medical Negligence, Sharon Allison, who is the Chair of SCIL, comments:
“The SCIL conference 2024 was a huge success which could not be achieved without busy lawyers working the organisation of it around their busy day job. The day was a pure pleasure of networking with some of the best medical injury lawyers in England. I am particularly proud of the relationship SCIL has fostered with the NHSR to work together for the benefit of both parties involved in a medical negligence. It is traumatic on both sides of the coin therefore the more we can work together to resolve claims quickly, efficiently and respectfully, the better.
“Whilst there are huge challenges ahead to preserve access to justice for people harmed by medical negligence, SCIL are as resolute as we have ever been, that the work we do is unique, valued and needed for our clients and we will continue to ensure that their voice is heard.”
